In Peril, The solution
There are a couple of fundamental flaws in our constitution that the founders never imagined citizens would take advantage of. But they never conceived of career politicians who put career ahead of country. There is also some character flaws in a majority of Americans that needs to be corrected.
I will cover these in order.
First the holes in our constitution. All democracies in history have failed once the electorate found they could vote themselves entitlements. With the Roman empire it was the emperor providing bread and games to keep the masses from revolting. This resulted in a citizenry that did not want to participate in protecting the borders or ensuring good governance. They only wanted to be taken care of. The second hole allows career politicians. We end up with people running our country that have no experience even running a small business. The founders considered serving in government a sacrifice but one they were willing to do for the good of the country. Now we have career politicians who have done nothing else in life and who do it for their own financial rewards even if it means sacrificing the good of the country.
It is simple to plug the holes in our constitution. One is to fix the election process by requiring every citizen to have ID that must be taken to the polls and presented in person at the time of voting. The second is term limits. The third is to disallow voting by any citizen who is taking more from the government than they are paying in. You shouldn't expect the winner's purse if you don't have a dog in the fight! Of course, this does not apply to social security recipients who paid into social security as an insurance for retirement and, as such, are only receiving their own money back with interest. This was the original intent of social security until our leaders distorted it by adding in social security disability, those who needed assistance for health issues regardless of whether they had paid in or not. This is noble and good except it should have been set up as a separate fund so the true expense of both programs was visible. All the talk about social security going broke is a result of this distortion of the program. In my high school years the concern was that the social security fund was getting too large. Politicians fixed that quickly enough.
I believe these three changes would fix the system. Hopefully things like using the national security departments and the justice department for political purposes would be fixed by honest elections.
But the character traits that lead to calamity are apparent. Our country was founded on Jewish/Chrisitian principles. These principles enabled our country to become the great country it is. Disregarding your opinions on Jewish or Christian religion, the principle of love of neighbor they both uniquely share was and is key. The driving forces of organizations like Black Lives Matter and White supremacy are greed and envy. These lead to destruction not prosperity. Our country must to get back to the being interested in helping our neighbors succeed rather than envying them; of building them up not tearing them down.
